Warner Brothers have announced the title to the latest film in their Fantastic Beasts series. The film will officially be titled Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. This will be the third film in the Harry Potter spinoff series following 2016's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and 2018's Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
It's been a bumpy ride to date for the Fantastic Beasts saga. Crimes of Grindelwald marked the low point in the Wizarding World franchise, both in terms of box office returns and critic/audience reviews. This prompted Warner Bros to prolong the pre-production phase of the third entry by an extra six months to ensure the script was up to scratch. Production experienced further delays due to the covid pandemic and has had to overcome controversy caused by Johnny Depp's involvement and subsequent sacking from the film.
But now it appears the film is back on track with the unveiling of it's title and the release date moving up three months to April 15th 2022. Jude Law will star as the titular wizard Albus Dumbledore, playing a younger version of the role originated by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon in the Harry Potter series. While Law was present in Crimes of Grindelwald his part was reasonably small. It's expected his role will be significantly greater this time around. While the mysterious and often scandalous backstory of Dumbledore was touched upon in the later Harry potter books, it's unclear what exact secrets the title is alluding to.

Alongside Law, the film will star Eddie Redmayne as magizoologist Newt Scamander. Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler and Katherine Waterston will also return. Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen replaces Johnny Depp as the villainous Grindelwald. Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has written the screenplay alongside Steve Kloves. David Yates returns to the directors chair for his seventh wizarding outing.
Warner Brothers have also released a synopsis of the film. It doesn't give away any of the plot but might give viewers a general idea of what to expect. Check it out below.
"Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald's growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?"
